Hello, Bonjour, Tansai, Hadih, Sat sri akal
History
For the past 4 years students in the Northern Lights College (NLC) ECED 208 /210 practica course in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), have produced a number of advocacy projects on topics and issues in working with children and families in communities. We have created videos, banners, magnets, silicone bracelets, buttons, post cards, posters and pinterest boards. We have hosted guest speakers and authors on topics such as Autism support, Literacy, Family support programs, and Professional organizations such as, Early Childhood Educators of BC, BC Family Resource Programs and BC Aboriginal Child Care Society.
The (ECEC) and Education Assistant ( EDAS) programs at Northern Lights have continued to build in enrollment, enriching the wealth of knowledge around our tables. This Fall ,2016, saw an enrollment of almost 400 full and part time students, in ECEC and EDAS courses from the programs and partnerships listed below.
online through- out British Columbia and beyond provincial borders
face to face and virtual connections on campuses of NLC through-out the Peace Region
partnership programs with SD 60 students and employees
face to face partnership with Seabird Island participants
face to face and online with our partnership program at Educa-centre (who deliver the NLC programs to French language first students)
video conference students through the Berry Patch Child Care Resource and Referral ( Prince Rupert) and Haida Gwaii
This term we invited everyone to participate with us in creating a virtual quilt project that will reflect the themes of
All children have needs and rights …
...the world doesn't change one person at a time. It changes as networks of relationships form among people who discover they share a common cause & vision of what is possible. This is good news for those of us intent on changing the world and creating a positive future." Wheatley & Frieze, 2008
Respect and Diversity
We asked everyone to “Share a Square” and share a design, picture, or message (in any language), that reflected and connected to any of the themes.
We have created a virtual quilt to continue the conversation about how we, as professionals support and encourage each other as well as children, students, families and communities we work with in being capable and able in our/their own ways.
